Friday Favorites and Not So Favorites

I have a little bit of Spring Cleaning Fever so I thought that I would do my post on a cleaning-related topic!

In case you can’t tell, that is the newly packaged Clorox Disinfectant Wipes.

First of all, let me say that I LOVE this new packaging idea, and the wipes come out very easily and one at a time!  Hooray!

But, these wipes have their place in a home.

In my house, that place is the bathroom; for use on the toilet, sinks, and countertops.

Allow me to heft myself up onto my soapbox for a minute:

I’m not really what you would call and “Earthy” or “All Natural” person (I let my child eat Pez daily…), but these wipes really worry me.

Do you know what the back of the package says?  I’ve underlined it in red for your reading convenience!

“For Surfaces that may come in contact with food, A POTABLE (drinkable) WATER RINSE IS REQUIRED.”

Also, “HAZARDS TO HUMANS AND DOMESTIC ANIMALS”

And every container of Clorox wipes says this, as well as the Costco disinfecting wipes, the Lysol ones, etc.

I have seen SO many people *cough* My sisters! *cough* use these on their kitchen counters.

I have even seen people use them for disinfecting baby toys!  That are about to go back into the baby’s mouth!

You KNOW that Clorox would not put that disclaimer on their package unless it was absolutely necessary.

They would have you use these wipes to not only wipe your kitchen counters and table, but to wash all of your produce if they could- anything to sell more product.

The fact that that little disclaimer exists tells you that it must be serious.

You are all in charge of your own houses, so it is ultimately your decision (although if I see you using them in person, I may casually say, “Read my blog much?”), I just thought that you should all be informed.

And, here is a healthy alternative…

Method Cleaning Wipes!  I chose the “Go Naked” wipes just because I prefer non-scented things, but if your cleaning products to smell like something (It is a wordless signal to your husband that you have just cleaned and are, therefore, a wonderful housekeeper!), they have several yummy scents to choose from.

And, do you see what it says at the top?  These puppies are NON-TOXIC!  Joseph could lick them (and, sadly, he has…) and there wouldn’t be a problem.

Plus, they are made from bamboo- which 1) sounds Neato and 2) means that they are better from the environment.

The downside is that they are a little more expensive, but I use them very sparingly: only on food surfaces and toys.  And the peace of mind is worth it to me.

Have a wonderful weekend!

I am hoping to get a lot done around the house while somehow simultaneously taking naps in the sunshine and entertaining Joseph.

Wish me luck!

That's where my wipes are too, the bathroom alone, although not having little children any longer, I didn't search the back label for problems. I was much more cautious when I had little ones crawling around.

Good eye, Caitlin!

I use those darn wipes everywhere... never have I read the back. You would think they would put that on the front in bigger letters. I also use the clorox clean-up a lot. Now I am going to have to rethink my cleaning habits.
