Friday Fragments

I have no cohesive thoughts. Only bits and pieces. Thankfully, it is Friday, so this works!

* On our morning walk today, I saw a truck in our neighborhood with a bumper sticker that said, and I quote directly:

"Patience, my ASS! I want to kill some wolves!!"

Umm...okay?

* The crazy Catholic lady who cornered me at Winco finally called last night! I knew that it was her, because she actually said, "Hi there- this is the crazy Catholic lady from Winco! "
Haha! Perfection!
It makes me actually like her a little.
Too bad I have to break her little conversion-hungry heart.
Maybe I will just not call her back.

* I was picking up garbage on our morning walk (I AM my mother) when some little old ladies started yelling "Thank you! Thank you!" from across their fence.

Then they started complaining for about an hour or so about "That Russian Lady" who lets her kids run wild and throw trash around.

It's always the Russians, isn't it?

At least when you're an old lady.

(Kidding! Kidding! Kidding!)

* Joseph played outside by himself for 5 minutes straight this morning while I unloaded groceries. HEAVEN!
During that five minutes, he emptied our bird feeder, sucked on Brian's BBQ tools, and broke a glass. I didn't even care- it was SOOO worth it!
(Except that there IS still a piece of glass missing...Note to self: Don't go barefoot in our backyard until we find it...)

*
An old man cornered me at Winco today (what is it about this store and it's corners?) and told me all about the Great Depression and how his mother could make an entire meal out of a bacon rind and a cup of flour.

Now, I really tried to pay close attention to this man, because I know that history is so important, and those who have lived during the depression are rapidly disappearing.
And also, I know that this old man was so lonely and just wanted someone to talk to.

But, mostly, I was just thinking, Flour and Bacon?! What the heck kind of meal could I possibly make from that?

Bacon-flour soup. That was my only conclusion.

Other suggestions welcome.

* An email from my Dad regarding my survey:

"I really wanted to check #1 about making the new baby, but you know that a father lives in denial about his daughter(s) and that sort of thing, so I chose the new hobby answer.
Love ya, my chaste, virginal, immaculate conception baby girl. Dad"

I love that guy.

That's sweet your dad still thinks of you like that. As a parent of a 17 year old, I'll probably always think of my kiddos like that.

I haven't even had the energy to muster fragments today!

I think you need to get a new store to shop in... that Winco sounds like it is populated by some real ... um....interesting people.

I love the email from your Dad, too cute!!

My parents have bets on when we are having another, I notice my Dad constantly watching what I eat/drink. I think he must be watching for the 'signs'. Sorry to disapoint, Dad!!!

Loved the fragment about Joseph the best. It caught me off guard and really did make me laugh out loud :)

Did the old man add, "And we LIKED it!" after his story? :)

Sounds like you have a special relationship with your dad; that's a real blessing.

You had me laughing out loud several times AGAIN! It is sad, how many lonely people there are out in the world, and you are sweet to talk to them for a while. It makes a little light in their world. And it was at a fence too, not just at Winco. You don't have to go far to find lonliness, my love.
About the litter: I took Aidan to the park on Thursday, we walked part way around the track and....picked up litter, chanting "litter bug, litter bug, shame on YOU!"

You saved the best for last. I swear I had a hard time looking my dad in the eye after I got married. I felt a little sheepish.

What the heck! I go to Winco all the time and I never get talked to or even remotely cornered. Do I have "I'm a mean crazy psycho" written on my back or something? I think it's just that your beauty is so radiant that people can't help but to be drawn in to you.

Caitlin, your mom is helping me answer you! I love your blog and have looked at it several times with Julie. You make me laugh and by the way, sorry for the hereditary flashing light on your head that says," I care!" Runs in the family. I voted for housework, at your mother's urging, but housework ain't as fun as making a baby! Love, Aunt Cathy

I am so jealous of anyone who can let their kids out to play. I live on a crazy busy road and we do not have a fenced yard. It is very large yard but with no fence means easy access to the road. I won't even let my six year old out side to play alone because their is this stupid water pumping station across from our house and the cars that go down this road all find it as a place to stop, turn around, etc. I hate that!
