Today, I am participating in Mama Kat’s weekly writer’s workshop.
I chose the prompt : “When I look in the mirror…”
.
When I look in the mirror, I am always a little surprised at what I see.
That’s not what I think I look like at all!
First of all, I look like a 16 year old.
A chubby 16 year old.
Who hasn’t slept in months. (check out those dark circles!)
.
Secondly, I generally walk around thinking that I look pretty pulled together. I shower daily, I usually put on make-up, so I must be looking pretty good- yes?
No.
No.
No.
I will look in the mirror and see that my mascara is now creating a ring around my lower eyelid.
My hair is sticking up in all directions (pregnancy frizz, you know)
and… what is that?
A BOOGER on my shoulder?!
Yes, not a pretty sight.
.
But, mostly, when I look in the mirror, I jut can’t believe that that girl – me – is living my life right now.
I have a wonderful husband (I married BRIAN from HIGH SCHOOL?! How weird is that?!)
and an adorable son.
I run a household,
I am pregnant,
I AM A MOM! A GROWN-UP!
It is really pretty great to be me- even when I sometimes don’t recognize who that is.

You're right, you do look 16. how much do I hate you right now?
okay, I don't at all, because you're too nice to hate. Aren't you lucky? ;)
Don't worry about that age thing. Someday you will cheer when they think you are younger. I know I do!
I am reminded of the high school girl who came to your door and asked if your mom was home, or something along those lines.
I know I can't believe that the person I see in the mirror is living my life as a grown up either.
You really are pretty great and do have a pretty sweet life! I'm so glad we get to hang out with you and count you as our friends!
Hey, I think you're pretty pulled together every time I see you!
And I, too, had some "nasal secretions" on my shirt today. Of course, I only discovered this after I returned from the grocery store and pharmacy.
This was so great! I love the whole "Brian ... from high school! Weird right?"
And I'm always thinking I look a lot more put together than I actually do, which is why I don't bother to look in the mirror that often. I mean ... why bring yourself down?
Love this post!
