Breastfeeding is my life

Alternatively titled: Call before you come over because I have a breast hanging out.

Did you know that you are supposed to feed your newborn an average of 8 times a day?

And, at least for my little sleepy guys, each session (including a diaper change) lasts about an hour.

Totaling 8 hours a day!

Basically I have a new full time job.

An ADORABLE new full time job!

That makes my nipples bleed.

He IS adorable. Congratulations, and good job, mama.

On the baby. Not on the bleeding nipples. I highly recommend soaking in a vat of lanolin if you can source one.

Right there with you! My guy (#5) was born Sept. 21, lost almost a pound, and hasn't gained it back yet! So, on top of 8 hours of forced breastfeeding, I am seeing the doc what feels like every other day to weigh him!

What a beautiful baby. I love the little "sucking" blister they get on their upper lip. So, so sweet.

My babies are all grown up now, but one of them made my nipples bleed into her fifth month. I finally learned (from a lactation coach) that she was not latching on properly. After that, I made sure she was lying (on a pillow)level with my breast. If she started out sucking improperly, I made her quit and start all over, and made sure the whole dang thing was in her mouth far enough. It helped a lot. With my third, I made sure he latched on correctly from the get-go, and had fewer problems.

And this may be way too much information from someone you do not know at all. But oh well. We're talking bleeding breasts, after all. (I'm friends with Five Kids Is A Lot of Kids...)

I love the simple TRUTH of this entry. Breast feeding was probably the hardest part...after pushing him out and not sleeping for the last year.... But it got better! Lanolin and perseverance. I felt better after reading that it usually takes 6 weeks for the breast feeding relationship to take hold and become comfortable. Best of luck!

Aw, cute baby!!! ;)
I am right there with you... 5 1/2 year old, 2 1/2 year old, except then I got twin girls for number 3! Mine are almost 7 months old, super cute, and yes, my nipples did bleed a bit, but lanolin was my friend. ;)

I think you have a lazy nurser. Bb was the same way. Every session took forever. I caved after six weeks. I couldn't do it and was losing my mind. He is so cute and looks so wise. How are the big brothers doing?

Awwww, new reader here and I love the pictures. I've got an almost 10 month old who is still getting 98% of his daily intake direct from the tap ... the other 2% is cheerios. I'm *still* logging hours and hours feeding him but I finally wised up and got myself a tablet so I get allllll sorts of stuff done while nursing.

Anyway, thanks for sharing, what a great post!!!

Congratulations! If lanolin doesn't help, try tea bags (my favorite), or cabbage leaves or (if it is still warm enough and you have the privacy) topless sun bathing. All these helped me. :-)

Thank you everyone for your nursing encouragement/tips!! Glad to know that I'm not alone! I have been upping my lanolin usage, really concentrating on my latch, and they are doing really good! As in, they only hurt a medium/high amount and not in a curse-inadvertantly-and-want-to-vomit way! Haha!

Also, welcome to all of the lovely new readers!
