Running the Boy Out of Him

IMG_5988

As I have mentioned earlier, Joseph has entered a stage in his little-boyhood that involves lots of physicality.

Read: he spends the majority of the day punching/kicking/jumping off of things and trying to wrestle me to the ground.

So, today, instead of screeching “GO PLAY QUIETLY BEFORE I LOSE MY MIND! (note to self: not real constructive when the person you are screeching at just turned 3), I decided that I would actually try to do something about all of this boy-energy.

We set off to find a park.

IMG_5985

And I spent the entire time telling Joseph to RUN! JUMP! STOMP!  KICK THE FOOTBALL!  THROW THE FOOTBALL! PUNCH THE PINECONE!!

Then, I started chasing him around the playground,

while Isaac chewed on the stroller wheel

and ate dirt

IMG_6031

What?! It’s good for his immune system!

(says the mother of the baby with a mystery rash)

When Joseph finally told me that he was tired, I raced him to the van.

We arrived home and he said, “That was fun, Mama, I played and you chased me!”

See?  It’s a win-win.

Here’s to a long nap and a peaceful afternoon.

Maybe.

Stripes and Polka Dots

My little love muffin was a vision in stripes this morning as he lounged on the couch.

IMG_5932

(The tongue-sticking-out-thing is his new look since teething began.  Not so great for pictures.)

IMG_5933

Where, you ask, are the polka dots?

IMG_5944

FULL BODY RASH.

IMG_5939

(which is almost impossible to get a picture of…)

The Doctor says that it is either

a) And most likely: A virus side-effect (baby measles maybe?)

b) A sign that we are 2/2 kids on the penicillin allergy (he was on it for an ear infection)

I am voting for A since the reaction looks different to me…

IMG_5948

Poor little guy!

IMG_5964

So, that’s what we are up to today!

IMG_5966

And trying to decide if being out of milk warrants a trip out during our Severe Winds Advisory…

The Other side of Isaac

He is getting LOUD and OPINIONATED

IMG_5909

I choose to think that it is just leftover funk from his recent ear infection and that he will be back to my patient, peaceful baby in no time…

IMG_5911

We are working on signing “all done” just in case…

This means lunch time is over at my house:

The Birthday Post

I was up until midnight the night before getting things set up.

IMG_5601IMG_5603

.

Brian helped.

.

IMG_5606

(See him “helping” on the couch with his eyes closed?)

.

Joseph came into the kitchen that morning with a big smile as we all said “Happy Birthday!”

Presents were first on the agenda (of course)

I love these pictures because of Brian cracking up in the background.

IMG_5813IMG_5814

He was laughing at all of the things I was making the Batman figurine say to the Joker figurine.

IMG_5816

Things like “Looks like the jokes on you, Joker.”

and “Eat bat guano.”

You know, the usual.

.

Joseph kept asking if it was “party time”…meaning “cake time.”

I forgot to buy party hats at the store the day before (curses!)

and since almost all of the stores around here are closed on Sunday (?) I couldn’t find any.

Cue a disappointed, slightly teary-feeling Caitlin, because not only does her baby not have any family or friends for his birthday, he doesn’tevenhaveapartyhathowcouldIhaveforgotten!!!….you get the picture.

Brian to the rescue!!-  All he needed was paper and a staple gun, and voila!

IMG_5819

Joseph was thrilled.

.IMG_5820  (in his underwear because he was in costume all day.)

IMG_5824IMG_5825.

And Isaac looks like a beautiful princess.

IMG_5826

.

After a dinner of chicken nuggets and corn dogs (Joseph’s favorites) we turned out the lights and sang happy birthday.

IMG_5832

IMG_5834

It was so special.

Just the four of us, in our new home, with Joseph just absolutely glowing with happiness.

IMG_5827

(he looked like this the whole time)

IMG_5828

After helping Joseph lick the candles,IMG_5842 Brian walked off to get the cake server-

and Joseph

dug

in!! (FACE FIRST!)

IMG_5845

 IMG_5853

Maybe he thought it was a cupcake?  Maybe he thought it just looked so delicious?

IMG_5843

IMG_5844

I started to stop him, then realized, why not?!

So Brian and I grabbed forks and joined him. (who needs plates?!)

.

Also, Isaac got his first taste of chocolate cake.

IMG_5856

IMG_5857

(See his CRAZY eyes?!)

.

After teeth brushing, Joseph was thrilled to be able to choose THREE books since he is now THREE years old.  He thought it was HILARIOUS!

The end.

Three

My baby turns three today!

More on our celebration later (let’s just say it is a good thing he is only 3 and didn’t notice/care that we have no friends so NO ONE else came to his birthday party!)

But for now, I will leave you with this picture of him today

IMG_5886

I love you, little boy/Batman.

You are truly one of a kind.  Soo smart and so surprising!

Thank you for the “hugs, kisses, squeeeezes, and head scratches.” every day.

And for telling me that I am pretty, a sweetie, and a cutie all day long!

YOU are the sweet one, little guy!

I can’t wait to see what this next year brings!

  Happy Birthday Joseph!!!
