Poem

I stumbled across this poem the other day.  I have read it before, as I am sure many of you have, but it seems so much more applicable now that I have a baby…

“Cooking and cleaning can wait ‘till tomorrow

for babies grow up, I have learned to my sorrow.

So cobwebs, be still now,

dust, go to sleep!!

I’m rocking my baby, and babies won’t keep.”

Enough to make me feel teary! (Or is that my hormones?)

So that is why my house today looks like this  IMG_7811

I am much too busy doing this.IMG_7799

Thursday’s Culinary Adventure V

Tonight, on Thursday’s Culinary Adventure:

IMG_7783

But not just any potatoes… ICE CREAM POTATOES!!!  Hip hip hooray!  These are sold at the Idaho Fair, and they are delicious!  I went online in search of a recipe, got some general ideas, and here we go!!

You will need:  Ice cream, unsweetened baking cocoa, and whipped cream.

-Set out your ice cream to soften a little.

IMG_7759  I used this kind for three reasons: 1) it is my favorite, 2) it was on sale, and 3) I thought that it would be easier to scoop out of a square box vs. a cylinder.

-Scoop out some ice cream, and shape it into…well…roughly what a potato looks like. (I used my – clean!- hands.)IMG_7762

Put the ice cream spheres (soon to be potatoes), back into the freezer to harden up.

IMPORTANT:  I only put it back into the freezer for about 20 minutes, and the ice cream was still too soft and very difficult to work with.  I would recommend freezing for a couple of hours!!

-Dump some of the baking cocoa onto a plate.IMG_7769

-Roll that little lump of ice cream in the chocolate, dusting off any big clumps.  You may have to sprinkle some more on top to get even distribution.

-Transfer to a clean plate.IMG_7770

You did it!

Now, you can mix things up a little, depending on what you want to do.

-Cut a wedge out of the top so that it looks like a baked potatoIMG_7773

-Add whipped cream to make “sour cream” topping.IMG_7775

-Green sprinkles could = chives

-A yellow Starburst could be a pat of butter!!!IMG_7776

Oh, the possibilities are endless!!! IMG_7778

Again, yours will look MORE believable, because if it was frozen a bit harder, it would not have made a runny mess all over the place!

Adult taste testers say:

Summary:

YUMMY!!!  Really, really good!  I think that they may have been a teensie eensie bit better if they had been frozen a bit longer, plus way easier to work with and more realistic

We think that they are delicious and fun!  Maybe cute to serve kids on April Fools Day? :)

Grade: A +!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Welcome!

How could you resist seeing this little face when you walk up to the front door?

IMG_7702

He loves to sit and watch outside for minutes at a time (which, in baby time, is equivalent to hours!)

IMG_7700

It makes me a little sad, as I wish that he could be seeing Grandmas, Grandpas, Aunties, and Cousins coming to the door on a regular basis!! :(  But, I suppose that the mailman and kitties will have to do!!

If you trek out to Idaho for a visit (and call when you’re close!), I promise that your “Welcoming Committee” will be waiting!!

My To-Do List is Full, My Posts are Empty.

No pictures today?  You protest.  No haikus or letters?  Nope.  I wouldn’t have even thought of that last post except that I was wearing sweatpants at the time.  Oh, how I love them.

The past two days, I have gotten NOTHING done around my house, and today I didn’t spend any time thinking of what to post on my blog.  Gasp!  I know, I am sorry.  It won’t happen again.  Luckily, I had a lot of dinner dishes to do (another failed experimental recipe, which ended with us eating Lucky Charms for dinner…), so I had a chance to think of what went wrong.

You see, these past two days, I have found a friend who has been as bored as I was!  Hooray!  Two bored Mamas + two cranky babies somehow = a good time and a fast-moving day!  Love it.

I love blogging, but when I hang out with a real person, I can actually hear them laugh at my jokes, and that is even better. (unless you leave a laughing comment.  I suppose that counts.)

Don’t worry, I can ignore the evil stares from my to-do list forever.  I will have plenty of scrubbing to do, and plenty of posts to…post?

That’s it, I’m going to bed.

Pants

The thing about high-waisted jeans is that they emphasize my waist, remind me to suck in my stomach, and keep my back end from imitating a plumbers’.

However, I have to unbutton them by the end of the day.

The thing about low-waisted jeans is that I think that they look more stylish on me, and less like an old lady.  Also, they allow my pooch to roam free. (Hallelujah.)

However, I have to wear a belt, and fight the ol’ “Muffin Top” look.

The thing about sweat pants is that they are perfect in every way.

One Year Ago

Here is what I looked like one year ago this past Saturday. IMG_3678 I was thinking about them tonight because I took these pictures to send with my Mom when she attended my dear, dear cousin's wedding one year ago today.

I was invited to be an attendant, but due to some early contractions and my whale-like appearance, I could not.  Still sad about that.  Happy Anniversary, cousin!!  (I think that it is today.)

Makes me look downright svelte right now.  Even with my sizable food baby.

R.I.P, A Haiku

IMG_6567-1

Due to a snow storm on Friday night,IMG_7691   IMG_7693 my beautiful walkway of flowers has perished.

They gave me many, many months of joy, and I am sad to see them go.

I can't help but feel responsible.  About two weeks ago, I wrote a letter...okay, a hate note, to Boise, criticizing the hot, hot weather that we were still having, and begging for some relief.

Who knew what the power of a good letter could do?  Who knew that I had so much influence over the weather?  My poor flowers paid the price.

 IMG_7698

In compensation, I offer this Haiku unto my flowers:

Bursts of color bright,

Now you are so very dead,

In the trash you go.

Sigh.  Goodbye, sweet flowers.

Until we meet again.

Given my amazing results after the last letter that I wrote, I would like to write another.  Hopefully, I can recreate my previous success:

Dear Idaho Lottery,

I would like a million dollars.  Oh, and I would have to FIND the winning ticket, since I don't actually purchase them.  I'll be at the mall tomorrow.  Let's do this.

Sincerely,

Your Future Best Friend and Writer of Many Haikus in your Honor.
