Blessed

Yesterday, Joseph and I were eating lunch, and I looked up to find him smiling right at me.

He reached over and grabbed my hand with his sticky, sweaty one and gave it a big kiss, complete with an enthusiastic “Mmmmuuuah!”

What an action of pure, sweet love and affection!

I am so lucky to have these moments in my life.

UTILITY SINK!

Last week, I just happened to mention to Brian that I would love to have a utility sink in our garage or laundry room.

Well, my inlaws were coming into town anyway, and what do you know? my father-in-law was up for a project.

So, a few days later, I have a UTILITY SINK IN MY GARAGE!!

Whoot! Whoot!

(It’s funny the things that excite me now-a-days?)

IMG_4617

Isn’t that incredible?  They put a SINK in my GARAGE!  Where there didn’t used to be one- or any pipes or wiring or anything!

And all this from the man who (apparently) doesn’t know how to change a roll of toilet paper…

Thanks, menfolk, for all your hard work!  That sink is a thing of beauty to me!

And he shall be called…

We have decided to name our second-born son Isaac!

I have ALWAYS loved that name (one of my favorite dolls was named Isaac), but I was a little hesitant at first because

a) I was afraid that it would be too popular

and

b)  I wasn’t sure how much I loved the spelling.  Really, besides aardvark, (which is such a common word) how often do you see two “a”s in a row?

.

But, in the end, it was just our favorite.  And we love it.  So we’re going for it.  Even if it does get popular, it is from the Bible, so it isn’t “trendy”- you know?

And, did I mention that it means “Laughter?”  How sweet is that!

(Unfortunately, I couldn’t find a name that means “Sleeps-through-the-night-from-birth”)

.

As for the rejected names from the “Name Poll”-

CHARLIE:  In the end, we just couldn’t do it because…well…it’s the name of our cat.  Did we forget to mention that little fact?  Charlie IS the stupidest of the cats, so he would definitely be on board to answering to “Chuckie” or “Hey you, dummy!”, but still.

BENJAMIN:  We still love it and, if we continue having boys, we will probably end up with one next time.  Benjamin was Joseph’s little brother in the Bible, so that’s an added bonus.

Benjamin is a pretty long name, however, so he would probably end up getting called Ben most of the time.

Which would be fine-

But, we want Joseph to go by Joseph- not Joe or Joey or Joe-Joe.  In fact, we will not ALLOW him to choose to go by any other name until he gets old enough to make a mature decision for himself.

So, we didn’t really think it would be fair to let Ben be Ben, when Joseph can’t be Joe or Joey.  You know Ben and Joseph doesn’t flow quite as well.

.

So, there’s our thought process for anyone who was wondering.  Or just for my own memories.

It was a long, hard, hormonally charged (on my part) battle to decide on a name and I am so glad to have it all behind us.

As long as Isaac really does come out a boy.

Joseph Rockin’ His Horse

At what point does shouting “Go, Joseph, go!” start being less about encouragement,

IMG_4600

and more about trying to get him tired for a nap…

Thanks for the new horse, Grandma and Grandpa!

Haikus for you(s)

A friend of mine pointed out today that I haven’t done any haikus on my blog in quite some time.  And she’s right!

I, for one, feel that there aren’t enough haikus fluttering around in this harsh world; and my blog has been Haiku-free long enough!

.

So, that got me to thinking; “What should I write a haiku about?”

I thought, and I thought, and then I blinked too long and almost fell asleep.

Woah, Nelly!”  I mumble, “Time for a cup of coffee!”

About that time, the fetus knees me in the cervix.

Drat!  I seem to be pregnant!"

Which means no afternoon coffee for me.

And, thus, Haiku #1 was born:

.

ODE TO AFTERNOON COFFEE

Oh, how I miss you,

Reduced birth-weight sounds just great!

My guilt holds me back.

.

There,” I thought, “Mission accomplished!”

And then I burped up some vomit.

Bile in your mouth: An unfortunate side effect of chronic heartburn.

“Sounds like a haiku!” you say?

I couldn’t agree more.

.

BURNING IN MY HEART   (Alternatively titled: WHY, GOD, WHY??)

My throat is aflame,

This kid had better have hair!

I hate stomach bile.

.

After several minutes of contemplation, I have yet to decide if “bile” is one syllable or two.

I’m voting for one.

And you really shouldn’t argue with a chick who tastes vomit all day.

Pumpkin Patch Take 1

The three of us took a trip to the local pumpkin patch last night.

Not to pick out pumpkins, mind you.

Mostly, we were just there to check out the tractor rides.

I think Joseph’s face says it all:

We will be back.  Maybe every night until Halloween…  (It’s free!)

When I look in the mirror…

Today, I am participating in Mama Kat’s weekly writer’s workshop.

I chose the prompt : “When I look in the mirror…”

.

When I look in the mirror, I am always a little surprised at what I see.

That’s not what I think I look like at all!

First of all, I look like a 16 year old.

A chubby 16 year old.

Who hasn’t slept in months. (check out those dark circles!)

.

Secondly, I generally walk around thinking that I look pretty pulled together.  I shower daily, I usually put on make-up, so I must be looking pretty good- yes?

No.

No.

No.

I will look in the mirror and see that my mascara is now creating a ring around my lower eyelid.

My hair is sticking up in all directions (pregnancy frizz, you know)

and… what is that?

A BOOGER on my shoulder?!

Yes, not a pretty sight.

.

But, mostly, when I look in the mirror, I jut can’t believe that that girl – me – is living my life right now.

I have a wonderful husband (I married BRIAN from HIGH SCHOOL?!  How weird is that?!)

and an adorable son.

I run a household,

I am pregnant,

I AM A MOM!  A GROWN-UP!

It is really pretty great to be me- even when I sometimes don’t recognize who that is.
